Driverless trucks make mining ‘safer’ for Rio Tinto

Australia is embracing automation across many of its industries – especially mining. In Pilbara, Western Australia, Rio Tinto‘s giant iron ore mining operation relies heavily on automation including seven-metre high trucks driven by computers rather than humans at the wheel.

The company says the automated system is safer and the reliance on technology brings many other benefits including enabling people to work remotely closer to home rather than spending time away from their families.
