Santo Domingo.- Mining Agency director Alexander Medina on Tuesday said metal-ore mines has paid the Dominican Government US$1.03 billion in taxes June 2006 to 2014, which in his view reveals that sector’s importance for the national economy.
He said in addition to that figure, the mining industry has provided US$76.5 million to the State via contractors’ tax payments.
Speaking during a panel hosted by INCE University and the National Natural Resources and Environment Fund, Medina stressed the Dominican State’s continued support for responsible and sustainable mining to exploit the country’s mining riches.
